POSTOPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS -
NASAL SURGERY
ACTIVITY
You may resume
essentially normal activities at home except strenuous activity.
You may wash your hair, shower, and bathe. Do not drive if you are
taking any narcotic for pain.
DIET
There is no
restriction regarding diet. There may be some discomfort on
chewing.
MEDICATION
An antibiotic
and decongestant is sometimes prescribed. You will be given a pain
medication. Nasal irrigation with OCEAN NASAL MIST, AYR, or NASAL
will decrease nasal congestion. You may make an irrigation solution
yourself by mixing 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon soda in 8
ounces of water and irrigate (flush) the nose 4 -5 times a day.
PAIN
You will have
some pain and pressure in the nose and face post-operatively. You
should contact your doctor if severe pain or fever should occur.
BLEEDING
A mucous-type
drainage from the nose is normal. It occasionally may be
blood-tinged. Continuous bright red bleeding should cease
promptly. If bleeding continues or is profuse, please call
your doctor.
OFFICE VISIT
You will be
advised to return to the office for removal of packing and/or
splints.
