Generalized Soft Tissue Post Operative


  • Keep incision dry for 5 days.
  • No exertional activity (running, jogging, weight lifting, etc.).
  • You may wash your hair preferably over a kitchen sink with the operated ear up and protected by a towel.
  • Clean suture line and around drain (if present) three times a day with hydrogen peroxide and then apply an antibiotic ointment, such as Polysporin, Bacitracin, or Triple Antibiotic Ointment (which may be purchased over-the-counter). Apply after each cleansing.
  • The dressing may be removed after 24 hours. You do not need to apply another dressing unless you are concerned about getting drainage on your clothes or sheets.
  • Take prescribed medication as ordered.

When to Call the Doctor

  • bleeding
  • fever over 100 degrees
  • breathing difficulty
  • tenderness or any noticeable swelling of incision site
  • increased difficulty in swallowing
